Vision of The Village

Planning Goals

The Cultural Village Plan 2010 is a comprehensive, resident-guided plan that maps the pathway to a healthy, vibrant village that covers every aspect of community quality of life and is embraced by all stakeholders and public agencies.

With the involvement of thousand of residents, the Cultural Village Plan 2010 will provide the blueprint for advancing community action on the cutting edge of community development.

The overall goal is to create a detailed, holistic action plan for development of a cultural village — with a focus on healthy living, supportive learning, compact design, walkability, transit-oriented development, equity, environmental sustainability, and resident ownership.

Goals include:

Civic Participation

  • Build, through the resident-led planning process, a cohesive community organizing capacity with strong regional networks that can mobilize strategic joint action.

Social Infrastructure

  • Strengthen the regional networks around health, education, arts and culture, technology, the environment, and public safety, and define the strategies, goals, and action plans for addressing key issues and opportunities in The Cultural Village.

Economic Opportunity

  • Develop a comprehensive community economic development strategy based on market analysis that identifies opportunities for private investment.

Physical Development

  • Develop a dynamic land-use plan, with a set of cornerstone permit-ready projects, that achieves LEED Neighborhood status, is flexible enough to adapt to market demands, and can deliver commitments from stakeholders.

Shared Learning

  • Create a learning resource team, strategy, and tracking process based on comprehensive success indicators established by residents and shared with the field.
